Selecting the Right Speaker

How do you select the right speaker without being able to listen to it? How do you know that our value is really as good as we say it is?

First, look at the location(s) for your speakers and the intended use. Choose a format (round/rectangular) and size that will fit in your environment. Then simply buy the best speaker(s) that you can afford of that format and size. The values we offer are so great, we're betting that you end up with better speakers than you ever dreamed of! If you're still not sure, try our no-risk offer: Order a single pair and check them out (see below). If they don't meet your needs, ship them back within 30 days for a full refund!

See our Speaker Selection Tablefor a comparison of all our built-in speakers.

See our Whole-House Tutorialfor more information about speaker selection.

Testing In-Wall Speakers

You can simply hook up an in-wall speaker to an amplifier to see if it works, but not to see how it sounds. Any in-wall speaker will sound extremely flat before it is installed in a wall. To judge how the speaker will ultimately sound, take two cardboard boxes, the thicker the walls the better, around 2 to 4 cubic feet in size. Seal the boxes with tape. Cut the appropriate size openings and temporarily "mount" the speakers in the openings.

If the speakers sound acceptable here...they will only get better in your walls. Remember that the cardboard boxes will sound a bit "boomy." That is to say that there will be a certain low frequency that comes out much stronger than other frequencies. This is due to the somewhat flexible sides of the box, and will not occur in a sheet-rocked wall.
