Features and Fuctions

The Universal Computer Interface (model CM11A) is set up from a Windows® based Multimedia PC to control the full range of X-10 compatible devices. You can set timed events and macros (groups of commands that take place with a single press of a button on an X-10 controller).

Works With the PC Switched Off

Once the interface has been set up, the PC is no longer needed. Two AAA batteries retain the time, scheduled events and macros for up to a week if the power fails. You can even unplug the interface after programming it and plug it in somewhere else in your home.

Connections

The Interface fits between the AC outlet and the computer's power plug. An AC socket is provided on the front of the interface for the computer's power plug.

A cable with an RJ11 connection on one end and a 9-pin 'D' type connector (DB9) on the other is provided to connect the Interface to the serial port of the PC.

Two-Way

The Computer Interface is fully two-way, both transmitting and receiving X-10 powerline commands.

ActiveHome™ Software

User friendly Windows® 3.1 and '95 compatible software is provided with the Interface which includes graphical representations of switches, modules, etc. to provide point-and-click control of modules, and easy setting of scheduled events and macros.

Scheduled Events

Events may be scheduled to occur at a particular time every day, on chosen days only, between chosen dates, etc. You can also tell the interface to turn lights on at dusk and off at dawn by choosing your location from a worldwide list.

Macros

A command from a controller (such as the included keychain remote and/or Universal SuperRemote) normally operates a device directly, e.g. pressing 1 ON switches on the module with unit code 1.

The computer interface, however, can be set up to intercept a command, and respond to it by automatically performing a whole group of commands called a "macro".

For example, pressing 1 ON on a controller would turn on the hall light and bedroom lights, then after 20 minutes dim the bedroom light to 50% and turn off the hall light, and finally turn all lights off 30 minutes later.

Universal SuperRemote

The SuperRemote, model UR19A, is the most versatile universal remote available. Like other universal remotes it contains a library of codes for most popular brands of TVs, VCRs, cable boxes, CDs, satellite receivers, etc. This lets you use the same remote control for all your audio/video products. The really unique feature of the UR19A though is that it is also a wireless remote control that sends Radio Frequency (RF) signals to the optional RR501 Transceiver. The RR501 retransmits these signals onto the house wiring to be received by the CM11A computer interface, which then performs the macros you have set.

Now you can sit back in your armchair, turn on the TV, adjust the volume, turn on the VCR, play a tape, turn up the heating or air-conditioning, and dim the lights, all from the same easy-to-use Universal SuperRemote.

ActiveHome Frequently Asked Questions

Q:Can I turn the outlet on the CM11A on and off via X10?
A:No. The outlet is always on; it's purpose is to save you from finding another outlet. (A handy thing since outlets are usually in short supply wherever computers live.)
Q:Is the CM11A interface available separately?
A:No. Currently, X10 only offers the CM11A as a package.
Q:Is there a Mac version of the software?
A:Yes. XTension is available from Sand Hill Engineering.
Q:Can I write my own program to talk to the CM11A?
A:Yes. The full interface specification can be found on the X10 website.
Q:I'm having problems with the CD software, what's wrong?
A:Go to the X10 website and get the current version of the software, it is considerably better than the version on the CD.
