Ménage Automation, Inc.

Ménage was founded in 1992 to design, manufacture, and market Home Automation equipment. Our first product was UCIX, a high-end whole-house controller. When it came time to market UCIX, it became clear that there were few reasonable marketing channels.

What marketing channels there were could be divided into two classes:

Catalog sales to "techo-freaks" (a term used endearingly; we is one.)
and "off-the-peg" sales in chain stores such as Radio Shack, where the sales staff rarely understood the even the fundamentals of the products.

Clearly, selling high-end whole-house controllers via either one of these marketing channels was not a viable business.

Finding no otherexistingmarketing channels, yet seeing a definite need for more (weneeded one, didn't we?), we created the countries first (to our knowledge) full-blown Home Automation retail store.

HomeTech Solutions

We called this retail store, where the customer can see all the products in action, HomeTech Solutions. Founded in 1994, HomeTech was an instant success. We marketed in several different directions, retail to "walk-in"s, mail-order (mostly to Northern California, Washington, and Oregon), and wholesale to electrical contractors and security dealers.

Our claim to fame is fast andknowledgableservice. Time and time again, customers told us that we were the only place that actually understood the products! We help people design solutions to their specific needs, explain in detail the installation, and even (if necessary) help troubleshoot any problems.

Our volume quickly grew to the point that we became a master distributor for X-10 Powerhouse and Leviton equipment.

This gave us the leverage to create a dealer network.

HomeTech Distribution

As our dealer network grew, we needed to separate the wholesale side of the business from the retail side, thus was born HomeTech Distribution. The youngest in the family, HTD is focusing on the specific needs of contractors and dealers. Understanding, selling, and installing Home Automation products isn't terribly hard, but it isdifferentthan pure electrical and security system sales and installation.

HomeTech Distribution provides the expertise, product, and technical know-how necessary for a successful business.
