You charge the battery in this via a USB connection or from sunlight. A bar graph shows the charge. You can then transfer the charge to a cell phone, iPod, or any USB powered/charged device. The built-in battery works great!

The only down-side is that the built-in battery looses some of its charge over time (30+ days) if kept in a dark place. But toss it on the dash once in a while and you'll always have a cell-phone/iPod/etc charger ready!

Note that the solar charger is pretty slow and, unless you plan to store this in direct sunlight all the time, it is best to use the solar panel just to top off the battery.
