IP Cameras connect directly to a computer network (Ethernet). They are accessed via a computer connected to the network via a web browser or special software. A "software DVR" can run on the computer, saving video to disk. (Note that software DVRs consume considerable network bandwidth and computer resources.)
Some IP Cameras are powered by the network connection, which is called Power Over Ethernet (PoE). Others are powered by a separate pair of DC power wires.
