A video modulator takes a baseband composite video signal and turns it into an RF station. In practice, this means that it can convert the Yellow RCA "Video" and the red and green "Audio" signals from your VCR or DVD player to a UHF/VHF/CATV TV station, like "52". This makes distributing video signals around the home much easier. Note that few modulators take in component, or HDMI video and few output ATSC (High Definition) digital signals.

Connecting diagram shows how a SC3 or SC4 removes one channel (3 or 4) from the antenna signal and combines it with a channel 3 or 4 signal from a local source such as a cable box or VCR. Blocks out-of-band signals emitted from pay TV unit. Prevents interference to off-air channel. Note that the SC3 and SC4 do not amplify the channel 3/4 signal. Use with multiple TVs will likely require a separate RF amplifier.
