By the way, there are two ways that a wall plate can mount, "Device Mount" and "Box Mount". Box mount means that the wall plate mounting screw holes are located so that the screws go into the holes in the wall box (where you would normally put the screws that hold the switch or outlet in.)
Device mount means that the holes in the wall plate are positioned so that the screws go into the holes on the device (switch or outlet) that has been installed in that gang location of the wall box.
So device mount wall plates usually have openings for the device to poke through and box mount wall plates are usually blank or only have a small hole for a wire. So now you know.
