When I plug my dsl alarm filter into the RJ31X jack, all my phones quit working.

When using the DSL alarm filter, you have to have a working alarm system connected to it. Otherwise, the phone line is not physically connected to the inside phones.

If you do not have a working alarm system, leave the filter and alarm system disconnected from the RJ31X jack.
