The short answer is: "you can't." The slightly longer answer is "you must use a multiswitch, which requires all the feeds from the dish". To explain:
With off-the-air and cable TV, all the programming is coming down the
cable all the time. Your tuner or cable box selects the channel you
want to watch from everything on the cable.
Satellite is different. Only some
of the programming is coming down the cable at any given time. Your
satellite receiver "tells" the dish what to send down the cable. For a
more complete description of this process, see the tutorial here.
But the bottom line is that you need two feeds, from your dish, and a
multiswitch, to distribute standard (non HDTV) satellite. You need four
feeds from your dish, and a multiswitch, to distribute standard and HDTV signals.
Also see our tutorial on connecting multiple receivers.
I see that some folks have "voted down" this answer. I would like to know if they voted it down because they thought it was wrong, or because they thought it's right, but didn't like it? Email your thoughts to jeff@hometech.com.
