On
some cable tv installations that have cable internet, when you install
the Channel Vision amplified splitter (CVT-28PIA), the picture gets
worse instead of better.
We do not completely understand this problem yet. The one thing we are
sure of is that the installations that have this problem also have
cable internet (on in a few cases, interractive cable TV, which uses
the same technology). The solution is to use a separate amplifier and
splitter, like this:

Note that this is how the cable internet folks want you to hook up your
cable modem anyway. This way, your cable modem is only one 2-way
splitter from the outside world; This keeps the attenuation of the
internet signal as low as possible.
Again, we're not sure why, but the key is using a separate amplifier and splitter, rather than the combined CVT28 unit.

thanks for this schematic! helps us diagnose issue we have w/our 4-yo OnQ box w/loads of cable connections. our internet is erratic!
