Tools for Wiring Coaxial Cable

These professional quality tools are used to install and wire coaxial cables for the home and office.

We've used several types of coaxial cable termination systems, and talked to many installers about the systems they prefer. A few schemes, like screw-on F connectors, were unanimously deemed completely unacceptable. Other schemes have their strong points and their weak points. We stock tools and connectors for both the standard "crimp" style and the Snap-N-Seal compression fitting style.

Nearly all professional installers, including cable TV companies, use either the Snap-N-Seal or the Stirling style connectors. These are "compression" style fittings, meaning that the tool compresses the fitting lengthwise, which in turn compresses a plastic collar around the outside of the cable. With the "crimp" style fitting, the connector simply squeezes against the outer cover of the cable.

Compression Tools For Snap-N-Seal & Stirling Connectors

The advantages of the compression method are:

  • The connectors are more firmly bound to the cable (and thus less likely to pull off).
  • The "tightness" of the bond doesn't relax over time (again, less likely to pull off).
  • The repeatability of the bond is very high (tired hands don't make bad connections).
  • Overall, it is considerably quicker to terminate each fitting.
