In Line RF Attenuators
Attenuators reduce the full range of RF signals by a set amount. In "tuning" video distribution systems, it is often easier to overamplify the signals, then reduce them where desired.

In-Line Attenuators |

In-line attenuators can be inserted in coaxial cable feeds to reduce signal amplitude levels. Combinations of attenuators may be used together to create greater insertion losses. For example, if a cable feed was found to have a signal level of 25 dBmV, and a level of only 9 dBmV is desired, then one 300010 and one 30006 could be used in series to create a 16 dB insertion loss, thereby reducing the signal level from 25 dBmV down to 9 dBmV.

Filters and Tilt Compensators
Filters reduce RF signals unevenly. Such as effectively removing all signals above a certain frequency. Low Pass Filters are used to "clean up" frequency bands for use with locally created channels. Tilt Compensators are used to attenuate low frequencies more than high frequencies.

Low Pass Filters |

A Channel Vision low pass filter is used on systems when the broadband entertainment feed is supplied by a CATV service. The filter removes all CATV channels above the pass band, allowing insertion of locally-generated channels. The 310278 leaves all channels at and below 78, and fully removes channels above 80. In addition, the filter removes cable system noise which degrades the picture quality of the locally-generated channels.

Notch Filters |

A Channel Vision low pass/high-pass filters are used to pass all channels below a selected frequency, and above a selected frequency. These filters have a four channel slope. The filters remove all CATV channels within the pass band, allowing insertion of locally-generated channels.

TSEQ-2150-12
Satellite Inline IF Slope Equalizer |
|
|---|
-12dB @ 40 MHz
-5.5dB @ 1 GHz
-0.3dB @ 2.1 GHz
Coaxial cable attenuates high frequencies more than low frequencies. The TSEQ-2150 creates an attenuation loss equal and opposite to cable loss. This problem is most severe when cascading amplifiers one after the other. The signal differences are amplified to a point where the higher frequency signals are so small compared to the low frequency signals that they can no longer be received. The TSEQ-2150 provides a balanced signal level by compensating for the high frequency attenuation and allowing all signal levels on all channels to be of equal amplitude at distant locations. Therefore, the picture quality on higher channels will be maintained.
